More Precious Than Silver

In ministry sometimes we experience things that mirror some of what we read in the Bible. I went to Honduras a few years ago, and on one of my travels through the streets of a local community there a man who knew our group was in town came up to me asking me for money. I remembered the story of Peter in Acts 3:1-10 and when the man asked me for money I gave him the same reply Peter did in the scripture and told Him I couldn't give him any money, but I offered Him Jesus. Here is the comparison between the two: Money to just get by or get something you want compared to receiving Jesus with the guarantee of eternal life in heaven and the abundant life promised in John 10:10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. He opted to hear my message and even though he did not receive Jesus the seed was planted, and I hope he came to a saving faith in Jesus sometime after that day.

As the Word of God says in the John 10 scripture, there is the promise of a "satisfying" ;ife and that life is given to us by Jesus. Satfisfied (def) - contented; pleased. To have a pleasing life is to have a life where, no matter what comes our way, we are content in Jesus and know that He is handling everything for us. How sad for us if we ignore the promises of God! God is not a liar!! His Word is true and definitely More Precious Than Silver. The man I met in Honduras was offered this life, albeit through my interpreter, and the offer was taken at the time like the man who was healed of his affliction in Acts 3.

Here is the scripture in Acts 3:1 Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them. All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God. 10 When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded! 11 They all rushed out in amazement to Solomon’s Colonnade, where the man was holding tightly to Peter and John.

God's promises are true. God's promises are real. God's promises are More Precious Than Silver. We need to glorify God when He comes through again and again and always remember to give Him praise and lift up His Name. His promises and His ways are to be revered and trusted. The Psalmist spoke of God's ways in the following way in Psalm 19:Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. 10 They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. 11 They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.

Today's Message,

David Warren
