Stay On The Path

2 Timothy 1:13 Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus. 14 Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you. Stay on the path set before you and don't get distracted by others who don't know your intent and your purpose. One of the majors failings of Christians is "we don't stay on the path" and we don't finish well. Today is the day to make a change and make a fresh commitment to the faith and follow God even more diligently. Set your focus on what God wants for your life and then ask HIm to give you "staying" power to finish the race. It is guaranteed there will be distractions and tough times ahead, but if you know what you should be doing you will weather those things and use them to propel you even higher and you will "stay on the path!"

There is a story involving Yogi Berra, the well-known catcher for the New York Yankees, and Hank Aaron, who at that time was the chief power hitter for the Milwaukee Braves. The teams were playng in the World Series, and as usual Yogi was keeping up his ceaseless chatter, intended to pep up his teammates on the one hand, and distract the Milwaukee batters on the other. As Aaron came to the plate, Yogi tried to distract him by saying, "Henry, you're holding the bat wrong. You're supposed to hold it so you can read the trademark." Aaron didn't say anything, but when the next pitch came he hit it into the left-field bleachers. After rounding the bases and tagging up at home plate, Aaron looked at Yogi Berra and said, "I didn't come up here to read."

Distractions can only keep us from reaching our goals if we have lost our core purpose. The writer of Hebrews said it this way Hebrews 12:1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.

After all, when God has called you to this purpose in life you come more alive through the power of the Holy Spirit because you are following God's plan for your life and your purpose takes on a whole new energy that is fueled by God. Don't let the petty things pull you away from the main thing and you will see the fruit of such a focused life and then you will "level up" in your pursuits because God is now driving your life. The world will really take notice when you hit your "home run" in life and you can then tell them "I wasn't in this to fail. I was in this to win!" Just be sure and give your praise to the one who gave you your direction and power for the race, and then you can say "God did it!"

Vesselogical Out,
