The Correct Response

Writer's picture: David WarrenDavid Warren

John 11: 40 Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?”41 So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. 42 You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” 43 Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”

Jesus calls out the name Lazarus and Lazarus came out, graveclothes and all. It is very important that Jesus called specifically the name of Lazarus because if He had just said "come forth" all the dead would have come to life. RESURRECTION POWER is real power!! Only Jesus!!

What was Jesus responding to in the above verses. But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.” That was a big, BUT by Martha and her words were that of someone looking at the situation with very "human" thinking. How do you approach your life? Are the things in your life bound to your human reasoning or tied to the truth as written in the Word of God? The response of Jesus was not one of "hoping" or "praying," but a response of authority, and He is the one with the ultimate authority over all things. Three words were used to respond to Martha's doubt, and Jesus got straight to it. LAZARUS COME FORTH!! Death in that human body bowed before the authority of Jesus, and life came back into that body, and Lazarus responded to the words of the Life-giver, Jesus.

The correct response of that dead body was to bow before the life giver and death had to go, cause life is back again. Do you feel dead in your walk sometimes? If so, pray to the life giver Jesus and ask Him to revive you again and He will. Our Savior Jesus has come into a dark world filled with so much death and despair and His light is just waiting to be seen in the ones who have been redeemed. Jesus is calling. What will be your correct response? The Correct Response to the one who is calling you out of death into life is YES!!
