Wave Walker

John 6: 16 That evening Jesus’ disciples went down to the shore to wait for him. 17 But as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn’t come back, they got into the boat and headed across the lake toward Capernaum. 18 Soon a gale swept down upon them, and the sea grew very rough. 19 They had rowed three or four miles when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified, 20 but he called out to them, “Don’t be afraid. I am here!” 21 Then they were eager to let him in the boat, and immediately they arrived at their destination!

The disciple's impatience in not waiting for Jesus to come was not a good move, and they were three to four miles out on the sea, and the sea became very rough. In their desire to go when they wanted to go, the storm caught them off guard, and they needed help. Verse 19 happens as follows 19 They had rowed three or four miles when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. Jesus had His heavenly GPS picking up their location on the sea, and instead of getting another boat, Jesus came to them walking on the waves. When they saw Him, their first thoughts weren't, "Oh, we are safe now." Scripture says They were terrified!" Jesus knew this, so He called out to them and said, "Don't be afraid!" When He calmed their fears with a Word, they were then eager to let Him in the boat.

Have you ever stepped out into a situation without Jesus' words of guidance to guide you? Bad move. God in His wonderful love doesn't sit back and say those fateful words of ridicule "I told you so." Jesus just comes to us and calms the storm we are facing and reminds us "We need Him' and life goes on. Only our stupid pride will keep us from facing Jesus and asking Him for help. Why should we ask for help? Because we need it constantly. The Psalmist said this way in Psalms 27:11 Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path,    for my enemies are waiting for me.12 Do not let me fall into their hands.    For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence.13 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. 14 Wait patiently for the Lord.    Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Some storms could be avoided if we just waited on the Lord and then fall straight into His will and ways. This kind of thinking is called "common sense," and it is needed to walk as Jesus leads us. Storms will come and waiting on His guidance will not only avoid some of those storms, but He is there to do something only Jesus can do when we desperately need help. The Wave Walker will come when the waves get too high and He will also guide us in when to do what. I say "follow Him" and His timing.
