Which Blood?

John 8: 31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?” 34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. 37 Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message. 38 I am telling you what I saw when I was with my Father. But you are following the advice of your father.” 39 “Our father is Abraham!” they declared.“No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example. 40 Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing. 41 No, you are imitating your real father.”

We have Sonship because of the blood of Jesus that was shed for the remission of sins and that is our spiritual connection to God. The people who were questioning Jesus only knew of the bloodline from Abraham, Jesus told them of the bloodline that would get them into heaven and it was the line of blood from His sacrifice. Jesus broke down all religious barriers that were humanly put in place by the people and they could not think in spiritual terms in order to follow His blood line. The writer of Hebrews says it this way in Hebrews 9:13 Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. 14 Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. 15 That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.

At the time Jesus was speaking of the new, correct system when realizing our inheritance. Our inheritance is an eternal inheritance because of the blood line from Jesus, not Abraham. This was so radical for people who were raised as the children of Abraham, to now be known as the children of God. And that blessing was not only for them, but for ALL who come to Jesus for the remission of their sins. ALL. Romans 10:13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

I have some in my past family who were not born again, but that bloodline does not restrict me from salvation because Jesus' blood is the blood line that saves me in spite of my earthly family. I also don't live a faith that is their faith, but a personal faith that God develops through the Holy Spirit in my life. Anything from imperfect humans is limiting to me as a believer if I rely on them. My reliance is on Jesus and Him alone. His blood is what I rely on, and it is pure blood with life-changing salvation attached to it.
