If someone asks me what I am looking at, I naturally point toward it to give them an indication of where I am looking. In my life, my calling has been to point people to Jesus. Someone may say, "I am so scared about life and the world," to which I would say, "Have you tried Jesus?" Hopefully, everything about me is about Jesus and what He wants. That is why I crave reading the Word of God; it points to Jesus, and I need Him. By the way, Jesus IS the Word of God, so all of this pointing goes together. John 1: 1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. Jesus has always been, and He always will be; pointing to Him is pointing in the right direction.
You may have been taught that "pointing is rude." Pointing is a very strong action and it draws all eyes to where you are pointing. Make sure your pointing is in the right direction and that direction is Jesus. In the following verses Jesus emphasizes pointing His direction as a lesson to all of us. John 5:39 “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! 40 Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.
You may read your Bible quite faithfully and that is good. Are you looking for Jesus when you do read your Bible? If not, you may miss seeing who the Word is pointing you to. You will find Jesus throughout the whole Bible, and looking for Him will further make the whole Bible come to life for you in a whole new way. Search the scriptures, looking for Jesus and not just to read them. They are pointing to our Savior and our redeemer, and when you see Him in those scriptures, they come to life as never before! Further, in John 5, Jesus brings up how those Jews would read the scriptures and then not follow them. Looking for Jesus can be something that can become just a religious exercise, without much results. Jesus said seek me and you will find me. Jeremiah says this in Jeremiah 29:13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. 14 I will be found by you,” says the Lord.
Who you looking for? If it is Jesus, then you will find Him. He is not hiding, and His Word points to Him directly!! Don't just read the Word of God, but look for Jesus in the Word of God and you will find Him everywhere in it. The Prophet Isaiah prophesied the following words from the Lord. Isaiah 55:6 Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Jesus is available. Are you looking for Him? If not Him, then who are you looking for?
