You Can Do It!

Writer's picture: David WarrenDavid Warren

John 14:Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. 11 Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do. 12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!

Greater works than Jesus sounds a little far-fetched until we realize that He has given us the Holy Spirit to empower us for those great works. The verses above say 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it! It's a little cryptic, so I can't quite understand the plain English interpretation that means ANYTHING. Sometimes we look at verses and go "Do you think He means that?" To which I say, If we believe the Bible, then we believe it all! Anne Graham Lotz told of her mother telling her that there were going to be so many unanswered prayers because they were not prayed. If that is the case, and I believe she is right, we must let ourselves be stretched a little beyond our comfort zone and lift up prayers of faith with belief hand in hand with those prayers because we truly believe Jesus did it then, and He can do it now!! Since the Holy Spirit still moves in our world today, then turn Him loose and pray believing because You Can Do It, if you ask it in the name of Jesus.

I am not going to speak for God in whether we should believe the above verses. I will leave that up to you and if you come to a belief in God working through your life, then the "sky is the limit." Don't insult God's perfect Word by picking and choosing what you want to believe and leaving the rest to guessing. That is an insult to the God of the Universe, and I don't want to insult God if at all possible. Just believe and receive. I am not talking some "prosperity gospel", but I am saying that God hears our prayers and responds in an awesome way. Turn to Him and pray that prayer in His will and see what happens.
